Luis Bourillon

Luis is a biologist and has worked in marine conservation and natural resource management for almost 40 years, beginning his career in the Gulf of California and then in the Mesoamerican Reef.
In 1999, together with five other colleagues, he founded Comunidad y Biodiversidad (COBI), a civil organization specialized in marine conservation and fisheries management, where he worked for 17 years. He has been part of the MSC or Marine Stewardship Council (see www.msc.org) from 2000 to 2012 and its board of directors from 2013 to 2015, and has worked as a consultant for MSC since 2015.
He pioneered the promotion of fishing eco-certification in Mexico. His academic training is a doctorate in natural resources management from the University of Arizona, a master’s degree in ecology and conservation of natural resources from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM-Guaymas Campus) and a degree in biology from the University National Autonomous of Mexico (UNAM).
He is currently vice president of sustainability of COMEPESCA, AC.
