Gretchen Thuesen - Summit

Gretchen Thuesen

Serves as a Program Lead for Future of Fish; an international non-profit organization that works with small-scale fishing communities and value chains to create sustainable livelihoods while protecting fish. Gretchen leads one of FoF’s three programs in Peru: the Domestic Market Development Program, whose long-term objective is to develop a responsible sourcing guide for seafood products in Peruvian markets in conjunction with local stakeholders. In the short-term, this program focuses on generating awareness around the importance of sustainability and responsible sourcing, and forming alliances with supply chain partners, government, and other NGOs to make seafood sustainability a reality in Peru. Her current position includes working at the intersection of fisheries management, value chains, and social science to create sustainable solutions for complex systems and value chains.

Before her current position at FoF, she served as a Research Associate, where she researched fisheries systems in Belize, Vietnam, and Peru. Before joining FoF, she worked as a field scientist on projects ranging from oceanographic research to fisheries observing. She holds a Master of Marine Affairs (MMA) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Aquatic and Fishery Sciences from the University of Washington.
